IPTV means Internet Protocol Television: television delivered over an IP network. At home, you use a compatible television or TV box to play the service. The box, your internet connection and the channels or subscription are three different parts of the setup.

IPTV, internet TV and satellite: what is different?

Traditional satellite TV receives a broadcast through a dish. IPTV sends television through an IP network instead. ITU's technical definition describes a managed network, where the provider manages quality, security and reliability.

People also use the word IPTV more loosely for internet-delivered live channels. Streaming apps that run over an ordinary internet connection are often called OTT, or over-the-top services. These labels describe delivery, not a particular channel package.

Can a TV box make my television smart?

A compatible TV box adds its own media interface to a television through HDMI. You choose that HDMI input on the TV, then use the box's remote and supported services. The television does not need to become a new model; it needs the right connection and a working display.

The ACECONN PI 4K Linux STB uses Linux 4.9, with 1GB RAM, 8GB storage and dual-band Wi-Fi. Its advertised video output is up to 4K at 60 frames per second. Check your TV and the services you want to use before choosing it.

What do I need to get connected?

Start with a compatible HDMI television, the box's supplied power adapter, an HDMI cable and a trusted home internet connection. Connect the box, select the matching HDMI input, then follow its setup instructions to join your Wi-Fi network.

If you prefer a wired connection, ask whether the exact box supports Ethernet before buying a cable. Test a programme at the quality you plan to watch. A strong Wi-Fi signal is useful, but it cannot fix a slow or interrupted internet service.

How much internet speed and data will I need?

Use the viewing service's own speed recommendation. As one example, Netflix currently recommends a stable 5 Mbps connection for 1080p and 15 Mbps for 4K. Those are Netflix's figures, not a universal IPTV requirement or a claim that Netflix supports this box.

Streaming uses data while video plays. If your internet package has a data allowance, check that allowance and the service's quality settings. Leave capacity for other people using the connection, and try a lower resolution if playback keeps stopping.

Does buying the box include football, movies and series?

The device and the viewing package are separate. Before paying, ask for the current channel list, sports coverage, movie and series selection, subscription period, total cost and setup instructions. For football, name the competition you want, such as the Premier League or Champions League, rather than asking only for sports.

A Netflix or Paramount logo does not establish that its official app works on a particular device. Check the service's supported-device information. Message ACECONN on Telegram for the PI 4K box, current package details and free delivery.

Quick answers

Does IPTV need a satellite dish?

IPTV delivery uses an IP network, not a satellite dish. Your chosen service still needs a compatible device and network connection.

Can I use a TV box with a television that is not smart?

A compatible box can add a media interface to a television with the required HDMI input. Check the TV's connection and the box's requirements first.

Will IPTV work without internet?

Internet-delivered live channels and on-demand streams need an active connection. A separate offline playback feature, if supported, is not the same as receiving a live stream.

Does PI 4K include a Netflix subscription?

Do not assume a subscription or official app support from the hardware name. Ask for the exact package and verify the service's device compatibility.
